 Professional Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health

(Labour Department Recognized Safety Officer Training Course)

The course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses for CEF purpose (CEF Course Code 25F02416-5).

The Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors) Regulations requires the employment of registered safety officers in certain construction sites, shipyards and container handling industry. To be eligible for registration as a safety officer, one has to possess any of the following qualifications:

  1. A recognized degree or post-graduate diploma in occupational safety and health, or equivalent, and relevant experience of not less than 1 year.
  2. A degree in Science or Engineering, or equivalent, and a recognized certificate, diploma or higher diploma in occupational safety and health, and relevant experience of not less than 1 year.
  3. A recognized certificate, diploma or higher diploma in occupational safety and health, and relevant experience of not less than 2 years, of which one year must be obtained after the academic qualification.
  4. A recognized certificate in construction safety and relevant experience of not less than 2 years, of which one year must be obtained after the academic qualification.

The Professional Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health is a 180-hour part-time programme offered by the School of Continuing Education, Hong Kong Baptist University with support from James Safety Consultants Limited.

The programme provides in-depth occupational safety and health training for potential safety officers to fulfill the academic requirement as specified in paragraphs B & C above.

This programme has been recognized by the Labour Department as a Scheduled Qualification for registration as safety officer.
